This diagram is presenting how researchers generate protoplasts. Protoplasts are plant cells that have had their cell walls removed by treatment with cellytic enzyme. Without the cell wall, scientists can easily transform ectopic genes into the plant cells and observe the gene expression and protein action. Protoplasts are powerful tools for scientists doing transient experiments.
